Episode #9

In Greece, from the start of the society, there have been men’s things and women’s things, including music. So I’ve always had to prove that even though I’m a woman, I’m as good a musician as they are, or I might even be better. And once I’m in, it’s about fitting in. Not being too sensitive, making the same jokes, doing my best to not be seen as any different.

Join Emma as she speaks with Nicky Kokkoli, a passionate and versatile young saxophonist from Greece as they discuss how she aims to use her music as a force of change, the challenges of being an artist in Greece, especially as a woman, the very unique way she’s found to keep her childlike sense of wonder intact, despite it all, and much more.
