Join Emma as she speaks with Nicky Kokkoli, a passionate and versatile young saxophonist from Greece as they discuss how she aims to use her music as a force of change, the challenges of being an artist in Greece, especially as a woman, the very unique way she’s found to keep her childlike sense of wonder intact, despite it all, and much more.
Episode #9: Nicky Kokkoli
“In Greece, from the start of the society, there have been men’s things and women’s things, including music.
So I’ve always had to prove that even though I’m a woman, I’m as good a musician as they are, or I might even be better.
And once I’m in, it’s about fitting in. Not being too sensitive, making the same jokes, doing my best to not be seen as any different.”
